Michael Zumpe

Faith, love and music are the most important things in life for me. To stay true to them, gives me the strength for a happy, fulfilling existence. For me, there is no separation between serious and entertaining music, for me there's only music, that makes people happy, that can improve and comfort. Music for me is passion and warmth – it is my language!

Biography

Born in Pirna, Saxony, Michael Zumpe was a member of the Dresden choir of the cross and after that the 1. choir prefect. Studying at the Hochschule für Musik "Carl Maria von Weber" in Dresden was a logical step after graduating, where he studied singing, composition and acting, with Professor Siegfried Köhler and Marianne Kupfer .

Studying was followed by a commitment at the Staatstheater Cottbus, where he already gained praises as a young lyric baritone in various- performances. Especially worth mentioning are his Papageno in the „Zauberflöte“ by W.A. Mozart, but also his “Harlekin” from “Ariadne auf Naxos”, the “Malatesta” from “Don Pasquale”, the “Figaro” from the “Barbier von Sevilla”, and the “Silvio” from the “Bajazzo”. In addition to his singing career, he appeared in films and moderated a.o. big international musical events.

At the same time he gave singing lessons for many years at the Hochschule für Musik in Dresden and in seminars and courses at the Mozarteum Salzburg.

Michael Zumpe also got a good reputation in the field of church music- where, he sings as a bass or. baritone in- a number of oratorios and masses, like for example “in the Weihnachtsoratorium”, the “h-moll-Messe”, the “Matthäus-Passion”, the “Johannes-Passion” by Bach as well as the Bariton part in the “Deutschen Requiem” by Brahms.

With his own compositions, but also more well known compositions by Robert Schumann, Franz Schubert or Johannes Brahms he designed and designs a program that shows his own, entertaining style.

His guest performances in Germany, at the Saxon State Opera and the Semper Opera Dresden or Berlin were followed by calls from abroad. Concerts and tours have taken him a.o. to Brussels, St. Petersburg, Los Angeles, New York and Washington.

As an artist, Michael Zumpe likes to stay- independent. He has devoted himself in addition to his own career to the work with choirs. That this is a success as well, could be seen at the 1. Deutschen Männerchorfestival in Essen in 2005, where his men's singing club 1846 Ruhland e.V. was the only contestant from the former GDR who won the 2. price and Michael Zumpe was honoured with a special prize as best conductor.

He managed to produce a brilliant masterpiece in the Mozart year 2006 with the "Mozart project", that was managed and founded by him , where he showed "The magic flute" and the Requiem KV 626 with a cast that was put together of professional singers and amateur choirs. That he acted as musical director and singer in one, caused astonishment even among experts. The project was showcased many times until August 2009 and, and other events. with the Orchestre St. Pierre Fusterie from Genf and the internationally reknowned Altus Zvi Emanuel-Marial from Israel.

Due to the large success of the Mozart project Michael Zumpe developed a follow-up project with the Opera Director Dieter Reuscher from the Staatstheater Cottbus: Albert Lortzing's opera 'Zar und Zimmermann'. In addition to the overall management and leading the rehearsals with the choirs, Michael Zumpe starred again as the lead Peter Mikhailov.

It is especially important for Michael Zumpe, to pass on the many good experiences and adventures, that he was allowed to take in his time at the Dresden Kreuzchor and later, to the younger generations. He is working as teacher for many years and promotes young singers, but also pianists. He allows them, to gain stage experience and helps them, to make important contacts.

The most important and most extensive project of the young- is based in the State of Brandenburg and called “Michaelis CHOR”, a choir for boys without denominational or regional binding, which it has taken on the task, to promote singing especially for boys and young men as a meaningful and worthwhile pastime. Various bases across the country help, to reach this great goal.
